Hospiz- und Palliativmedizin könnte in den Vereinigten Staaten eine formelle Unterspezialität der Arzneimittel sein, die sich auf die Symptombehandlung, die Linderung von Leiden und die Sterbebegleitung konzentriert. Im Jahr 2006 wurden Hospiz- und Palliativmedikamente vom Yankee Board of Medical Specialties offiziell anerkannt und werden von den Yankee Boards für Allgemeinmedizin, medizinische Fachgebiete, Familienpraxis, physikalische Medikation und Rehabilitation, psychologische Medizin und Neurologie, Chirurgie und Pädiatrie mitfinanziert , medizinisches Fachgebiet, Radiologie sowie Medizin und Medizin. Im Jahr 2007 genehmigte das Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists der Yankee Osteopathic Association ein Zertifikat über ergänzende Qualifikationen (CAQ) in der Hospiz- und Palliativmedizin. Derzeit sind die Yankee Boards für Allgemeinmedizin, Allgemeinmedizin, Neurologie und Psychologische Medizin zuständig. und physikalische Medikamente und Rehabilitation. Kandidaten haben Anspruch auf eine CAQ-Zertifizierung, wenn sie im Anschluss an eine von der Yankee Osteopathic Association anerkannte Facharztausbildung als Associate in Nursing die Board-Zertifizierung erhalten.
