No innovation or technology is possible unless the work is done by a team. Therefore, the members of Team GARUD (SAE-NIS 2015 participant), highly motivated individuals, have been working tirelessly towards the realization of this goal since its inception. This paper describes the design considerations and methodology used for the design and development. The vehicle design was done in SolidWorks 2014, and the design analysis was done in ANSYS 2014. Various lightweight design approaches such as lightweight seats, wheels and steering were also adopted. Innovations include the use of rear wheel steering instead of the conventional front wheel steering, which meets the market requirements and can be effectively manufactured by a fictitious company. Therefore, the human-powered hybrid vehicle represents a new milestone in the field of “green technology”.
