In this work, a preliminary design of a hybrid vehicle with fuel cell and battery drive is developed and a GEM eL Golf 2012 is evaluated and designed for analogous vehicle requirements. The packaging of electrified drive modules was evaluated and proposed. In addition, the concept design is simulated as a series hybrid vehicle model with PEM fuel cells and lithium-ion battery in the Powertrain System Analysis Toolkit (PSAT®) software. The performance data of the vehicle with the proposed electrified drive components are determined and analyzed. The results are considered satisfactory and comparable to the performance of the conventional vehicle. This design can also be transferred to general vehicles in the long term, thus creating independence from fossil fuels.
