This article introduces the available technology and discusses the difficulties in implementing intelligent robots in next-generation automobile assembly. First, the status of automobile assembly lines is introduced, the problems and difficulties of current industrial robot-based assembly systems are analyzed, and the technology required to overcome these problems and difficulties is summarized. Then, the new intelligent assembly technology developed at the National Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (AIST) is introduced, which can be directly used to implement intelligent robots in automobile assembly. Then, the article analyzes the disadvantages of the newly developed technology, discusses remaining challenges, and presents our view on next-generation automobile assembly systems.
