Geographisches Informationssystem

Ein geografisches Informationssystem ist ein System zum Erfassen, Speichern, Bearbeiten, Analysieren, Verwalten und Präsentieren aller Arten von räumlichen oder geografischen Daten. Das Akronym GIS wird manchmal für geografische Informationswissenschaft oder Geoinformationsstudien verwendet, um sich auf die akademische Disziplin oder Karriere im Bereich der Arbeit mit geografischen Informationssystemen zu beziehen.
